Bringing new works to the London stage

Part of our vision at SPO is to revive an age of melody that all of us as musicians and performers would have loved to be a part of. The golden age of the early and mid 20th century brought with it a romance and drama that worked brilliantly on both stage and screen. Only recently have we seen the like of this kind of writing with the work of Adam Guettel ( Grandson of Richard Rodgers ) with his moving and quite simply brilliant score of his show "Light in the Piazza" which played an extended run at The Lincoln Centre in New York.

We are dedicated to and passionate about bringing works of this era, that maybe didn't capture the imagination in their day, but are still great compositions, into the concert arena now. On May 16th our concert will include works by Rodgers and Hammerstein, that have yet to be performed in the UK. Pipe Dream, that only managed some 200 performances on Broadway, has the most beautifully sincere and original scoring. State Fair, originally written for the "big screen" will be performed in its 1996 Broadway version, again a first for the UK and finally a show that Richard Rodgers was particularly fond of Allegro, from which we will include the Overture.

I hope that you are able to join us for this very special occasion.
